Dr. Keiji TachikawaDr. Keiji Tachikawa
President & CEO, NTT Mobile Communications Network, Inc.



Dr. Keiji Tachikawa assumed his current position of president of NTT Mobile Communications Network, Inc., Japan's mobile telecommunication operator, in June, 1998. Before then, Dr. Tachikawa held a number of important posts in his 36-year career with both NTT and NTT Mobile Communications Network, Inc.

From 1997 to 1998 Dr. Keiji Tachikawa was senior executive vice president of NTT Mobile Communications Network, Inc. From 1996 to 1997, Dr. Tachikawa was senior executive vice president, Business Communications Headquarters of NTT. From 1995 to 1996, he was executive vice president of the Service Engineering Headquarters. From 1992 to 1995, he was senior vice president and general manager of the Kanto Regional Communications Sector. From 1991 to 1992, he was executive manager of the Technology Research Department working on NTT's General Planning Headquarters. From 1990 to 1991, he was a senior executive overseeing NTT's mobile communications as well as packet network and visual communications business. From 1989 to 1990, he was a senior manager of the Business Strategy Planning Headquarters, where he was responsible for planning NTT's 21st Century Service Vision. From 1986 to 1987, he was director of the NTT America Representative Office in New York, where he founded NTT America Inc. in 1987, and became first CEO. He joined Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation in 1962.

Dr. Tachikawa graduated from Tokyo University with a bachelor's degree in technology in 1962. In 1978, he graduated from MIT with a MBA, and in 1982 he received his Doctor of Engineering degree from Tokyo University.

He was a regional chief of the Institute of Electronics and Communications Engineers (IECE) in 1995-1996, the largest communications technical institute in Japan. He is the author of several books in Japanese on the future of the communications and information industries.

Dr. Tachikawa was born in Gifu Prefecture in 1939. He is married and has a son and a daughter.
