Takatoshi Matsumoto joined Cisco in 1992 as President of Nihon Cisco Systems
K.K. in Japan. From 1992 to 1994, he had grown the company into a joint
corporation by attracting investment from thirteen leading Japanese
companies, including NEC, Toshiba, Fujitsu, Hitachi, Softbank, and Sega
Enterprises. He was promoted in 1995 to Vice President of Japan Operations
at Cisco Systems, inc. and became Vice President of Asia Operations in 1996.
October 1998, he became Chairman of Nihon Cisco Systems K.K.
After receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering from Hosei
University in 1966, he began his career as a software developer of operating
system for mainframe at Nippon Electronics Development Co., Ltd.
In 1975, he joined Digital Equipment Corporation Japan and served as Sales
Manager of Yokohama Branch and Business Manager of Tokyo Sales I Division.
His career as an entrepreneur started in 1984 when he established Insight
International, a consulting company specializing UNIX and artificial
intelligence technology.
In 1986, he founded Nihon Sun Microsystems K.K. as General Manager and
contributed to establish its leadership in Japan’s UNIX workstation market.
Prior to joining Cisco, he also founded System Software Associates Japan
Ltd. In 1990.
He currently is an auditor and board of directors member of Internet
Association of Japan.
