The concept of the “Internet of Things (IoT)” has been attracting attention as variety of devices and systems such as consumer electronics and industrial applications are connected to networks beyond computers and smartphones and new value is delivered to society thanks to digital data accumulated through communication between them. Technologies in adjacent areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and big data are also advancing. Japan’s industry, which has developed centering on manufacturing, is expected to have the opportunity to bring big innovation to the industry.

Recognizing the emergence of the new trend, the “Global ICT Summit” will change its name to the “Global Digital Summit”. It is becoming more and more important to utilize digital technology for the society and economy we pursue. As its first meeting, the 2017 summit will select the theme “Innovation and Growth Spurred by IoT” and discuss how society is being changed by IoT as well as business in the future.
